If you want to be a partner but don’t have a clear pathway, it can be useful to ask yourself some reflective questions. Here’s a few to consider:
Have you fully explored the partnership opportunities where you are?
Have you had the right conversation with the right people?
Are you facing up to the facts in front of you, or holding on to hope?
What’s holding you back?
Do you need to develop your business case, or are you simply not strategically aligned with your firm?
Do you have an active sponsor in the room when partner decisions are made, or just a supportive mentor?
Is the barrier a missing commercial metric , or a cultural/relational perception?
If you brought in your target billing numbers tomorrow, would the path open up - or would the goalposts move?
Are you building a practice for where your firm is today, or where it’s trying to go tomorrow?
In the end, as with many aspects of life, it’s about working out what is within your control and working on that.
What are some other good questions to ask yourself?
